Fencing

This program will introduce the basics of fencing, or help experienced fencers improve their skills. OPREC Fencing is taught by Orchard Park’s own fencer, Toby Burns.

Fencing improves balance, strength, and coordination of both the upper and lower extremities.  The fencing stance and movements will increase tone and strength of your quads, hamstrings, and glutes.  Arm and shoulder strength will also increase as you fence your way to fitness and fun!

Not only is this program fun, stress relieving, and a great workout, it also looks great on college applications! Equipment is provided.

*Before any participant is able to use Foils of any kind they must practice and master the basic footwork that is the foundation of fencing and a safety requirement.  The basic footwork includes steps, thrusts and parrys.  Participants progress at different rates, due to this foils may not be used until the end of the session or even the second.

*Advanced fencers are now able to use electronic equipment for more intense training!

*Want to try fencing before registering for a full session or can only commit to some of the dates?  Give us a call at 662-6450 to talk about our other registration options!
