Start Smart Programs

START SMART is the critically acclaimed program from the National Alliance for Youth Sports that helps kids get ready for organized sports without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. Parents work one- on-one with their child focusing on motor skills that gradually build confidence while children have FUN! Program runs for six, one hour 


Summer 2019 - Registration opens May 1

Basketball at Honeycrest Playground - Program focuses on dribbling/ball handling, shooting, agility, and passing/catching.

  • ages 3-7
  • Wednesdays,  6/19—7/24
  • 5:30—6:30 pm
  • $105 (6 classes)

Move and Play - In this class parents work one on one with their child focusing on fundamental fine and gross motor skills that gradually build confidence while children have FUN! Fine Motor Skills are essential for performing everyday skills such as using pencils, scissors, building, buttons, zippers etc. Gross Motor skills are the abilities needed to control the large muscles of the body for walking, running, sitting, crawling and other activities.

  • ages 8 mo - 4 years
  • Fridays at Green Lake / Yates Park, 7/5—8/911:45 am—12:15 pm
  • Mondays at Pawtucket Playground, 6/17 - 7/22, 4:30 pm - 5:00 pm
  • $95 (6 classes)

Soccer - Focuses on skills including: dribbling, passing, trapping, kicking, throw-ins and agility. Each participant will receive a Start Smart manual, t-shirt, set of cones, and two different size soccer balls.

  • ages 3 - 5 1/2

  • Saturdays at Birdsong Park,  Saturdays, 6/22– 7/27, 10:30—11:30 am, $105 (6 classes)

  • Thursdays at Orchard Meadows, 6/20 - 7/25 (no class 7/4), 5:30 - 6:30 pm, $87.50 (5 classes)


Sports Development Parents work one on one with their child focusing on motor skills that gradually build confidence while children have FUN! Program runs for six, one hour classes. All participants must start with the Development program and then are eligible to go on to Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Tennis or Golf. Children ages 3-5 must attend this program prior to any other Start Smart Programs. Skills include throwing, catching, kicking & batting. Each participant will receive a Start Smart manual and t-shirt.

  • ages 3-6
  • Saturdays at Birdsong, 6/22—7/27 9:30—10:30 am
  • Wednesdays at Honeycrest,  6/19—7/24 4:30—5:30 pm
  • $95 (6 classes)

Tennis at Orchard Meadows - Program focuses on ground strokes (forehand and backhand), volleying, serving and running/agility skills. Each participant will receive a Start Smart manual, t-shirt, racquet and two different pressure (ability to bounce) tennis balls.

  • ages 3-6
  • Location: Orchard Meadows Playground
  • Thursdays,  6/20—7/25, (no class 7/4)
  • 4:30 –5:30 pm
  • Fee: $87.50 (5 classes)

Focuses on skills including: dribbling, passing, trapping, kicking, throw-ins and agility.
